Pet insurance has actually been around for many, many years, but here in the US it has been common in the average home. There are lots of reasons for that. Some say it relates to the fact that as a whole, we do not trust insurance companies so we do not place a lot of value in having insurance, for ourselves and certainly not for our pets. And in today’s economy, we are cutting corners wherever possible – which unfortunately for some has meant cutting out visits to the doctor and dentists or even the purchase of medication.

It is true that initially we may feel that we are spending money needlessly because in general, puppies experience good health and wellness care is inexpensive.
But it is important to remember that most dogs will at some point experience an illness or injury that will result in expensive vet bills. That is, unless you have dog insurance that will cover the costs. You truly can get good coverage for your puppy at a good price. Check around with different companies; do dog insurance comparison shopping before committing to any policy.

The best time to get pet insurance is when they are puppies! The reason is because a lot of the companies will not cover the claim if it is a pre-existing condition. So when you insure them younger, it is more likely that the insurance will cover it!
